From your Interim Priest:
I’ve just returned home from St. Charles, Ill, where I attended the National Intentional Interim Ministry Conference. This is a wonderful gathering of Interim clergy, of various denominations, from all over the United States and Canada. We put in long days attending plenary sessions with speakers and several workshops each day. Most of the workshops were very interesting and helpful. I have pages of notes to read through and absorb! Hopefully I can share with you some of the insights I gained, as time goes on. I then spent a few days in Wareham at my trailer, getting moved in for the season and relaxing a little.
On Memorial Day I was honored to do the opening and closing prayers at Mount Pleasant Cemetery during the parade stop there. I spoke briefly with the Honorary Grand Marshall, Earl Kuja. He is a Pearl Harbor survivor. My late uncle, Charles Dickinson, was one of the marines wounded at Pearl Harbor, so I felt some affinity with this elderly gentleman.
The Deanery Confirmation was held on Saturday, May 31st, at St. Chrysostom's, Quincy, with The Rt. Rev. Roy "Bud" Cederholm, Jr., presiding. We honored our confirmands at the 10:00 AM service on June 1st : Jack Banagis, Amber Dickinson and Charlie Morse. Gifts were given to each of them from the parish. A reception for them followed after the service.
June 15th - Children's Sunday - is the last day of the regular Sunday School program. The teachers, Cherie and Karen, will take a much needed break for the summer. The children will participate in the worship at 10:00 AM - preaching, reading, doing the prayers of the people, the collection, etc. Please plan to attend!
There will be a simple program offered for young children during the summer by Kat Wiley - during the 10 AM service. Please see her article about this. This will provide an opportunity for parents to attend worship and have something for the children to do. They will come in as usual to participate in the Eucharist. Church does not stop for the summer!
My Summer Vacation: I will be on vacation from June 22nd through the 28th, visiting family in Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh). The Rev. Marshall Hunt and The Rev. Victoria Wells Hunt will be at Trinity on June 22nd to conduct services. They will also cover for my vacation time beginning July 20th and ending August 9th. During that time I will spend a week in North Carolina visiting an aunt and uncle, and a week in Maine visiting friends. I hope that you all will find some time for rest and re-creation this summer!
It has been a very exciting month for our some of our younger members. A warm and heartfelt congratulations to Amber Dickinson, Jack Banagis and Charlie Morse, who were confirmed on May 31, by Bishop Bud Cederholm at St. Chrysostom’s in Wollaston. Emily Banagis and Catherine Morse participated in the service as torch bearers and did a wonderful job. Many friends from Trinity joined these three young adults and their families on this important day.
Also hearty congratulations to Kristin Basford who graduated from Rockland High School and is off to college in the fall. It is amazing to see how our children have grown into beautiful and responsible adults. We wish them all the best.
The Search Committee is continuing its hard work, completing the profile and meeting with Bishop Bud in June. We will soon be ready to receive names of applicants.
Please watch the Sunday bulletins and future newsletters for upcoming events. Especially remember the Church Picnic on June 29. The 10:00 a.m. service and picnic will be at the Ames Nowell State Park (pending confirmation with the site).
The Women’s Group is again sponsoring a luncheon (seafood and chicken salad sandwiches and strawberry shortcake) and art show on Saturday, June 28 featuring the artwork of our own Pat Isaac, as well as pottery by Rockland native Helen Najarian. Our own Christie O’Neil Harrison will also be there to sell and sign her published book “Dear Tommy”, a loving tribute to her brother Tommy. Come celebrate the accomplishments of our own artists!
After discussing the issue and receiving input from parishioners for the past month the Vestry voted to continue with the 8:00 a.m. Rite I and 10:00 a.m. Rite II services throughout the summer. There will also be a summer Church School Program during the 10:00 a.m. service for any young people who will be attending with their families this summer. The program will be led by Kat Wiley.
Thanks again to everyone for all the support to our Vestry and Search Committee.
Baby-sitting is available at the 10:00 a.m. service for infants and Toddlers.
Please call or see Karen Boyle if you are interested in volunteering.
Got kids? Not sure what to do with them at church over the summer? Have some Veggies! On the Sundays of 6 July - 17 August, Trinity kids and their friends are invited to hang out with Larry the Cucumber, Bob the Tomato, and other vegetable entertainers for some Bible Story videos and simple crafts. We will meet in the Cherub Room starting at 10 am and come into church for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Snacks will be provided!
