The Good News

FROM THE RECTOR

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

Well, that was a Holy Week and Easter for the books! Outside of the COVID year, I don’t think I’ve experienced such a challenging, unusual Holy Week and Easter ever! I certainly did not appreciate my lightning round bout of COVID, but I was and continue to be so proud and grateful to all of you who made Holy Week happen, even when I wasn’t there, and kept things going when situations changed on a dime. See my gratitude section for more details. Now I’ve got even more reason to sing your praises when I talk to the Bishop and other clergy!

As our Lenten fast is ended, it’s time to embrace the joyful season of Easter. Nature hasn’t quite caught up yet, but that shouldn’t stop us from breathing the free, sweet air of freedom from death and sin. Jesus has opened the door to eternal life and grace in the presence of God, and all we need to do is believe and follow. Not that those things are always easy, but by the power of Jesus Christ and his Resurrection, they are possible, and we live in the hope that we can be the blessed and holy people that God made us to be. That’s something to celebrate and Good News to share!

Alleluia! Christ is Risen!

THIS MONTH, THE RECTOR IS THANKFUL FOR...

Charlie Morse (the younger), for basically saving Easter for me. From taking charge of the entire Easter Vigil, including singing the Exsultet, to pitching in for me during the sermon at 10am when I started coughing, Charlie did it ALL, and with all of the grace that we’ve come to expect from him. Charlie – you are outstanding!

Pam Chester, who took on the Maundy Thursday service when I was at home beating COVID. This is a complicated service, and yet she did the whole thing with confidence and reverence. Exceptional, Pam!

Irene Bonn, for taking on the washing of feet, a job that makes many people squeamish. Thanks also to Kathy and Ann Crockett, for handling the logistics of that part of Maundy Thursday. You DID it!

Ann and Kathy Crockett again, for saving the day when Irene fell. I know I’m not alone when I say how grateful we all are for your quick and expert action, and for your willingness to put in a day in the ER to accompany Irene. I also know I’m not alone in saying that if anything ever happened to ME, I know who I’d want right there!

Everyone who brought soup or bread for the Maundy Thursday supper. I hear tell that it was, as always, a feast. Can’t believe I had to miss it.

JAMES CROCKETT MEMORIAL HOCKEY GAME

The annual hockey game to raise funds for hockey scholarships will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 6PM at The Bog, 188 Summer Street in Kingston. Donation at the door is $5, and there are terrific raffle prizes as well. This is always a fun game (not full length) and a fantastic time. Please don’t miss it!

INQUIRER'S CLASS CONTINUES

After an Easter break, Inquirer’s Class will resume on Monday, April 8th at 7PM. We’re going to dip our minds into the expanse of Hebrew Scriptures as well as continue our tour of “corners of the Prayer Book that you’ve never seen”. Warm drinks, snacks, and Compline as well. Please come!

WOMEN'S GROUP

The Women's Group will meet in the Conference Room on Monday, April 29th at 7pm to create May Baskets for our shut-ins. The Women’s Group meets monthly on the last Monday of the month, with a few exceptions. Dues are $1 a month.
Let's get together and have some fun!

Greetings to all. If you missed us in the Fall of 2023, fear not! Our 8th wine tasting will take place on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. We are very excited to host this event in the Spring. We have new flavor palates and menu options, not to mention a new slate of wines for your tasting pleasure. Please email kibonn@comcast.net to reserve your spot (if you have not already done so) and please share this info with your family, friends and anyone you think will enjoy this event. Tickets are $40 per person. We are hoping to make this year a sell out!!!

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR FATHER STEVE FREGEAU

As we all know, Father Steve died last year after struggling with myriad health issues. His family will be offering a Memorial Service for Father Steve on Saturday, April 27th at 11am here at Trinity Church. Burial will follow in Abington, right next to Pat, and a collation will follow in the Parish Hall. Everyone who knew and cared for Father Steve is warmly invited to come to remember him and to celebrate his life.

CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS AND HELP THE CHURCH!

Coming soon, the Women’s Group will hold a gently used goods collection in coordination with Savers, who will actually pay the church by the pound for what we collect! As you switch your wardrobe from winter to spring, please consider setting aside items in good condition that you just aren’t using anymore. In addition to clothing, we will be able to accept household items, toys in good condition, games, puzzles, and shoes and accessories. Please don’t bring anything to the church until a date is set. We need to set up a specific date for a few cars to make the delivery at the same time. Remember – if you have something you’re not using, you have something that belongs to someone else. Thanks for remembering the church when you do your spring cleaning!

FREE CONCERT!

The Southeastern Philharmonic will offer a free concert on Sunday, April 28th at 2:30PM at the Whitman Town Hall. Come to enjoy the music, and maybe even spy a few members of the church in the orchestra, including the rector, who will endeavor to play most of the notes assigned to her. Except in the Beethoven. There are just too many.
